Meet your new digital RF radiating A/C meter

New A/C meter looks like some RFI got into it. What will happen when lightning season arrives?
By now you have received a few letters from the power company stating that they will be swapping out your meter for a digital one that will transmit your information a short distance away.

So what does it all do? Does it cause RFI to Amateurs? Where and what does it transmit? Where can I find information about this thing?

As mentioned in the Clubs May news letter, there are some things you should know, like what happens if you connect your generator up to your home and forget to trip the main breaker. From the documentation it looks like you will have tripped the 'Tamper' sensor!
Very detailed answers to those questions and a whole lot more on how the thing works can be found at the FCC web site by looking up the FCC ID number SK9C1A-3. It's hard to find the page for the ID lookup info so here it is step by step:
  • Copy and past this link into your browser:
    https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/cf/eas/reports/GenericSearch.cfm

  • In the 'Grantee Code' field enter SK9

  • In the 'Product Code' field enter C1A-3

  • Go all the way to the bottom of the page and hit the 'Start Search' button.

  • On the next page after you hit Start Search, look for the column that says 'Display Exhibits'. Click on the 'Details' link and there you will find the mother load of documentation (in .PDF form) on this meter.

If you download the operators manual (yes, there is one!) it covers several models. The model you will end up with is C1SR which is found in Chapter 6. There are other details about the meter in other chapters as well.
