Hams Receive First Class Recognition in 1964

A whole sheet of 20 stamps (actual sample shown above) was recently donated
to the LWRA scrap book by Bill and Maryanne.

This purple stamp combines a radio broadcast wave with a portion of a radio dial.

It was designed by Emil J Willet of Hartford, CT.

It was in Alaska that Hams wrote another chapter in a long public service record by maintaining communications following the Alaska earthquake at 5:36 PM on March 27, 1964.

The stamp was issued December 15, 1964 in Anchorage, Alaska, the 50th anniversary of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL).

A total of 122,230,000 stamps were issued!
