! ! ! Some new news! Water Tower / Repeater Site Updates

Left- Burns Ave., Right- Water tower where we will hang our antenna.

As of November 10th
Jack K4BYF reports that on November 10th, the tower climber, examined the site and saw no problem with the installation. He was ordering the antenna, a DB224 now, and would do the installation when it comes in. We do not have a time frame as to when the antenna will arrive.

In the mean time, we will have moved the equipment essential for Repeater operation, to a location where it can be set up and tested.

Tower statistics:
Water tower height 130'. Ground elevation (ASL) 234'. Will be about 75' higher than pervious site.

John KC4KLM says he can spot 12 antennas in the above picture. How many can you find?

We'll be up there somewhere in a tangle of 'tennas....

As of November 3rd
John KC4KLM has been in touch with City officials as well and they said they understand our delay (waiting on tower climber) and are in "no hurry".

As of September 29th
Active member Jack K4BYF has been in contact with the City and says they are delighted to hear we are still interested in using the water tower. Jack says the City would like to use the LWRA Repeater as a backup in case they have a failure. The city says they do have their own Amateur Radio equipment available to them if needed in emergency.

Additional news on the City communications as reported by Jack. They are setting up an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in the Fire Department building. Also they have a mobile set up as well.

There also has been discussion about the need for an antenna that can hold up a lot better under high winds than our current antenna, which is not really meant to be used in a commercial environment. The tower climber says he can get us an antenna at 30 percent off the cost and would run about $600. Update: We will be purchasing the antenna.
